| Job Description |
One of our leading clients has an opening for a Sr. UDB DB2 DBA in the Birmingham, Alabama home office. This is a six month contract with possible extensions. The person in this role will provide the following: Ensure the integrity and security of all corporate data by enforcing compliance with all Internal Audit and Legal requirements; Provide database support for the DB2 Server Client/Server Database Development, Implementation and Maintenance: Offer effective and efficient database design techniques balanced with corporate standards and data integrity; Production support and Disaster Recovery of the corporate Databases. Responsible for tactical support planning and Interfacing with customers. (i.e. Project Managers, Data Administrators, System Developers, Production Management, and End Users) |
| Responsibilities |
- Verify performance and timing of maintenance scripts, using the general pattern already created for multiple databases.
- Create automated system that uses frequently collected snapshot data to make performance recommendations.
- The system should also generate the change scripts of desired by the user.
- Use the Windows Performance Monitor and create a Counter Log to capture the critical DB2 performance counters.
- Configure the Counter Log to be saved using a System DSN that points to each system’s DAS instance.
- Create containers, tablespaces, and space allocations for this the Counter Log table using established standards.
- Create a DB2 script to purge this performance data and place it in DB2 Task Manager but disable its schedule. Place this script in the Task Group named Performance Monitor.
- Create a performance baseline for the databases.
- Monitor the performance on the databases
- Review the performance baseline for lock escalation, memory contention among competing buffers, and I/O bottlenecks.
- Pareto the biggest issues, develop a recommendation, and review your results
- Review all Capture and Apply logs, Health Monitor alerts, and db2diag log files and Pareto all warning and error messages.
- Create a set of DB2 scripts to collect the log and alert data. Store this data in a table in the DAS instance for each system.
- Begin remediation efforts to eliminate or reduce the frequency of each error or alert.

· 10-20 years of experience developing and architecting DB2 databases
· Thorough experience with multiple Windows platforms
