The Opportunity
If you like staying active, working with a solid crew, and seeing the results of your work each shift, this role deserves a closer look. As a Backstand Operator, you’ll support daily production by staging and handling rolls, maintaining a clean and safe work area, inspecting materials, assisting with equipment, and helping the team keep operations running efficiently.
What You’ll Do
- Keep the operation moving. Stage rolls, prepare materials for production, support efficient roll changes, and help minimize material loss.
- Be a go-to teammate. Assist with start-ups, clear routine jams, fill hoppers, load labels, provide relief in qualified work areas, and help wherever the crew needs support.
- Own your work area. Sweep, mop, empty trash and hoppers, organize materials, and keep the backstand and surrounding production areas clean and ready.
- Protect quality. Inspect rolls before and during stripping, identify defects or unusual conditions, complete assigned quality checks, and prevent contamination of recyclable material.
- Care for the equipment. Keep designated equipment in good operating condition, address minor issues when qualified, and promptly report repair needs or recurring problems.
- Communicate clearly. Give a complete shift handoff, keep operators and leadership informed, and help train new employees on safe, consistent work practices.

You’ll be expected to:
- Follow established safety rules, plant procedures, and equipment lockout requirements.
- Correct or report unsafe conditions and behaviors immediately.
- Keep floors and work areas clear to reduce slip and trip hazards.
- Operate lift trucks safely, under control, and only as authorized.
- Help ensure visitors and drivers remain in approved areas.
